One of the easiest and most beautiful ways to pray is to sit quietly in Creation’s arms, without agenda, without words. 

There may be a bench under a pregnant oak awaiting your visitation. Or an eastern window may invite you to its sunrise liturgy. Each season offers its distinct secrets. As the calendar pages fall, holy mysteries tumble before us as we pray.

Of course, our deep love is for the Eucharist and Sacred Scriptures. Still, we should realize that there are many blessed revelations written into life. Nature, relationships, memories, hopes, regrets, and fears – they all have the capacity to carry God’s Word to our hearts.

Each day’s experiences write a personal epistle for us. Prayer is the time we spend reading it, sitting beside God in the silence.

Now, we come to late August when nature’s colors and sounds begin a soft unwinding. Summer’s high energy hums a disappearing tune, and we shift our focus to Autumn’s more ponderous duties. But before that turning, what gifts has summer given to sustain us and to invite our cyclical return in time? Were there revelations we may have overlooked simply because of their divine simplicity?
